Reading GamesHula Hoop HopSet out 2, 3 or 4 Hula Hoops. If you have colored hula hoops use green (go, beginning of word), yellow and red (stop, end of word). Use note cards to include sounds (phonemes) that you want practiced. For example: you might use ch, sh, th & wh with different vowels and ending sounds. For a beginning reader making cards for each letter in: b-a-t, c-a-t, m-a-t, m-a-n, etc. would be a good start. The parent tosses the cards with letters into the hula hoops, one letter or sound in each hoop. If you are playing outside, tape a penny to the back of each card so that they won't blow away. Students hop into the first hula hoop and say the sound in that hoop. They continue to hop and say each sound. On the last hop the child says the whole word.
"chin" Have fun playing with sounds in Hula Hoop Hop!
