Fourth Grade: Literary Reflections
This unit is written by the College Of William and Mary and designed specifically to meet the needs of high-ability learners. The goals for this unit of study are:

To develop analytical and interpretive skills in literature
To develop persuasive writing skills
To develop linguistic competency
To develop listening and oral communication skills
To develop reasoning skills
To develop understanding of the concept of change

Literature selections provide an opportunity for students to explore and gain insight into the concept of change in particular as change affects people in various circumstances, cultures, and various times.

PROJECT: Students read the novel, The Secret Garden, by Frances H. Burnett and create their own special garden to share with the class.

PROJECT:  Novel Assignment

Students select a novel of their choice from a teacher list and complete several activities for this novel. This project includes analysis, reflected journal entries, vocabulary webs, and an original BOOK JACKET. Students present a "book talk" to the class.
