Myths Based on the Stars

Each year 5th graders take a field trip to the District #204 planetarium at Waubonsie Valley High School. After their visit, they create myths based on the stars and the constellations that they learned about. In preparation for this writing activity, Mrs. Kroening tells a few of her favorite Native American tales that focus on the stars.

Mrs. Krowning shares some Native American folktales that explain the creation of the stars. One story tells us how the Milky Way was formed. As the seasons change, so do the stars and constellations.
