Fourth Grade

Science: Environment

Water filtration is an important part of maintaining our environment and fourth graders learn a variety of ways to filter water.

Filtering water can be a slow process. A bottle can serve as a receptacle.
Layers can serve as filters. The size of the pipe can make a difference in water flow.

4th graders learn all about the environment. As part of their learning, they observe crickets in terrariums that they have planted and research endangered animals.

If you look closely, you can see a cricket in the corner of this terrarium. Measuring the plant growth is an observation that is recorded. Crickets love the damp, dark environment of a terrarium.
What conditions are needed for these plants to survive? The environmental conditions are ideal for these plants.

Students research the basic facts and also the reasons why the animal is endangered. They explore what people can do to help it survive in our world. Watch for examples of their HyperStudio presentations coming soon.
