Second Grade

Reptile Research & Expository Writing

In October, Clow second grade students are involved in a one of a kind research project! First, they each choose a reptile. Geckos, Komodo dragons, and crocodiles are just a few of the many reptiles that the children decide to research.

Lizards By Lisa

A lizard is the most colorful reptile. It looks scaly, colorful, skinny, small, and it has little tiny dots. They live in trees, hot places, and under ground. They eat plants, insects, flies, ants, beetles, and grubs.

A lizard is an interesting reptile. There are lots of lizards in the world. Some lizards climb with their claws. Lizards have colorful babies. They shed their skin. Some lizards can fly. Lizards have a fork tongue. Lizards camouflage well with leaves, plants, and other things. Lizards can stick out their tongues. Lizards are a few inches long. Some can walk across ceilings. Giant monitor lizards can swim in water. They have long scaly tails and some have fans. There are 20 different families of lizards. Lizards are very important to people, especially to farmers because they eat large numbers of insects. There are about 3,000 kinds of lizards. Chameleons and some other kinds of lizards can change color.
