The 2006-2007 Clow School Storytelling Festival is a
year long celebration! Mike Anderson spent a December day sharing his
stories of growing up in Illinois. He brought his friends to life as he
told of the many adventures they had.
As Mike Anderson played his dulcimer and sang along,
students clapped with two fingers to keep the beat. The sound was a
wonderful accompaniment!
Not only did Mike Anderson bring his dulcimer but he
also brought a variety of jaw harps. He even had one from China that had
a little different sound from the one that he received as a gift from
his grandfather.
Students enjoyed the music that Mike Anderson made
with his dulcimer and his jaw harps but when he brought out the nose
flute that was really something to see and hear.
One of Clow students' favorite stories is the one that Mike Anderson
calls "Riding Trees." He told how he and his friend, Danny, climbed
trees and sprung off of them to fly through the air. Everyone believed
every word he said but in the end he revealed that he had made up most
of the story. That's what makes him such a good storyteller and writer.
The stories he tells are totally believable.
Clow students had a great day filled with music and
storytelling.
