Emily and Glenda are dynamic storytellers, full of
engaging energy and rhythm. They sang a story song about Friends and
taught us Deep & Wide with hand signs. The West African tale of the
Tortoise, the Hare & the Elephant was followed with I Am Somebody and
Beautiful are My People based on a poem by Langston Hughes.
Anansi stories are always a favorite as was Anansi &
Beans, Greens, & Yams. Singing along with Harry Belafonte's We Came From
the Mountains, made us feel like one big family. Hearing the story of
The People Who Could Fly led us all to join in singing We Shall Not be
Moved.
Glenda and Emily even
told an Uncle Remus story about how Brother Rabbit survived a drought
and ended with everyone on their feet applauding.
