Guided Reading

Believing that the Library Media Center (LMC) is a fundamental part of the educational program of all Indian Prairie Schools, the Mission of this LMC is to encourage, promote, and assist members of the Clow School Community so they can be effective and discriminating users of ideas and information, and to foster the reading habit and use of a library for lifelong learning.

Computerized access to materials and information through a student-centered, professionally selected, and  organized collection of resources representing a wide range of subjects, levels, interests, and mediums. The LMC Director and teacher plan and teach cooperatively as well as reinforce, remediate, and enrich the classroom curriculum by integrating the teaching and use of library and information skills and resources on a regular basis. Students use computers as instructional tools as well as to reinforce, remediate, and enrich the curriculum, both independently, in the classroom, and in group settings as in the computer lab. Computer use is dictated by the Elementary Technology Curriculum, directed by the teacher, and integrated into the classroom curriculum. The LMC plans for a variety of school-wide reading incentive programs. The prescribed activities reinforce the enjoyment of reading and encourage reading throughout the school year and summer, promoting life-long reading for pleasure.
Indian Prairie School District #204 received the American Library Association's School Library Media Center Program of the Year Award in 1993.
