Aaaaaaarrgghh! Spider! by Lydia Monks  / Rating 5

2nd grader Timothy says, "This book is about a spider who wants to be a pet but people keep throwing it away! But suddenly lots of sparkly webs appear! Could it be the spider? Or could the spider be a pet? I like this book because it has a happy ending. The pictures are good and they have texture. I love this book!"

2nd grader Matthew says, "This book is about a girl named Tillie. Her school has a good principal but that principal can get a little carried away. One day the principal gathers every person in the school. He said that he loved the school so much that "Let's have school on Sundays and Saturdays and holidays and on winter break and summer break and spring break. It was up to Tillie to change things back to normal. I like this book because the author makes the principal force you to have school on Saturdays and Sundays, holidays and summer break, winter break and spring break."

1st grader Kate says, "This book is about Arthur when he sees ripped pants. It helps you learn that you should help your friends when they need help."

3rd grader Alyssa says, "It is about a kid having an enemy and gets to know him better. It is special because it shows kids not to have enemies."

Because the Little Bug Went Kachoo by Dr. Seuss

2nd grader Caitlin says, "A little bug went "Kachoo" and a lot of bad things happened. I really liked this book!"

The Very Bad Bunny by Marilyn Sadler

Diana says, "In this book there is a kind of bad bunny but his little cousin comes over and he becomes the Very Bad bunny. He cheats and he never says, "Sorry" once. But Funny Bunny, he only gets tangled up in his brother's yoyo by accident and does everything by accident. He was sorry. This is a funny book. It is surprising. I never knew that the Very Bad Bunny was such a good artist and that Funny Bunny was so good at making paper dolls with the newspaper before his dad read it."

Liz says, "Tacky is an odd bird, not like his companions. Tacky is a special penguin because he was a hero!"

Tricia says, "Each letter of the alphabet is devoted to something or someone related to Illinois. Like G is for Ulysses S. Grant, H is for Harold Washington, S is for Springfield, etc. The pictures are colorful, the topics are great and it's all about our state. Each topic is described in detail with the letter. We learned a lot about our state with this easy to read book."

Terry's Creature by Deborah Gould

Stephanie says, "No one believes in a little flying hippopotamus which Terry sees in his dream and wakes up with it in his hands. He draws pictures of it and gets complimented by his family. This book has good background colors and pictures. It looks a bit real."

Hope says, " How the Grinch Stole Christmas takes place in Whoville. The story is in a snowflake. It is really funny."

Arthur Goes to Camp by Marc Brown

Jon says, " Arthur doesn't want to go to camp but his parents make him. At the end he loved it. Marc Brown is a really good author. That is why I have this book."

Just because these are picture books, doesn't mean they are all for younger children. Many of them were written especially for older kids.
