Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules by Jeff Kinney
5th grader Mitchell says:

"Whatever you do, don't ask Greg Heffley about his summer vacation because he definitely does not want to talk about it. I would have to give this book a definite two thumbs up because it is exasperatingly funny and a real book that would cheer you up? somehow.

I would have to say that this novel is a 100% humorous book. Greg Heffley is a very normal kid with one problem, and that is that he has a secret diary and his brother, Rodrick, got a hold of it and read it and now he holds all of that against Greg, and Greg basically has to do whatever his brother tells him or else the secret gets out. Now what will Greg do about that. I guess you'd have to read the book to find out.

There are definitely some ups and downs to this hilarious book. One strength of
this book is it is a hilarious humorous book where I laugh every single page like when Rowley and Greg were playing a magical wizards game with a giant nerd that was Rowley's babysitter. Another strength is there is not hard vocabulary at all like seeing, garbage, and humorous, and those are probably the hardest words. There are a few weaknesses though. One is it is more of a boy humor like when people get pushed around and get wedgies and what not. Another weakness is that it is hard to relate to like when you get rolled up in toilet paper and you can never get out.

I would definitely recommend this book to others if you like humorous books or adventurous books because this is definitely the book for you."

This book is very good ecause Miss Suki likes animals."

Jillian Jiggs by Phoebe Gilman / Rating: 4
2nd grader Marissa says:

"The book was about a girl, named Jillian, who's room is was very messy.  Her mother wanted her to clean up her room but Jillian would say, "later" to her mom and went to play with friends.  Jillian played and made her room so messy that her mother fainted.  Jillian's friends tried to help her clean but she wanted to play.  Jillian has not cleaned her messy room.

This book is special because Jillian Jiggs does not listen to her mother.  Her room looks like pigs live in there, but Jillian enjoyed playing in her messy room."

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules By: Jeff Kinney
5th grader Dylan says:

"OUCH," Said Rowly as he sat on a tin foil ball with tooth picks sticking out of it. Greg Heffley is a wimpy, short, loser, and he's getting in a lot of trouble lately.

A hilarious fiction book about a kid named Greg Heffley having the worst year of school of his life. Here are some reasons why. His mom bought him a diary and he doesn't want anybody to see him walking around with a book that says diary on it and get the wrong idea. And second of all his brother has a very embarrassing secret that he's holding over him for the whole school year.

There isn't a lot of hard vocabulary and it's a very fun read. And I also have a couple of weaknesses for you. It's kind of hard to understand and you have to really focus to understand most of the book.

I would recommend this book because it hooks you right as you start it. I would give this book a 9 out of ten on the scale and I would give it a two thumbs up. It's also very funny and interesting. I would recommend this book to people in 4th though 7th grade."

Upchuck and the Rotten Willy: The Great Escape by Bill Wallace
5th grader Matts says:

"That's enough, Rotten Willy.  Knock it off."  "Oh, don't get so fuzzed up, Chuck."  A sly smile wriggled across his face.  "Yeah," he repeated.  "Don't get so fuzzed . . . Upchuck."  Who would ever guess that a dog named Willy and a cat named Chuck could be best friends!  The two friends survive many hilarious adventures and a few close calls.  This book gets a thumbs up!  Read on and laugh at (Rotten) Willy and (Up) Chuck!

This book falls into a few genres of fiction:  animal, humor, and adventure.  The main character is Chuck.  As a cat, Chuck thinks of himself as superior.  He thinks he is smarter than any dog, including Willy.  Chuck guides and keeps Willy safe through many of their laughable adventures.  Cats rule, dogs drool is Chuck's motto.  One day, disaster strikes as one of their adventures turns dangerous.  Will Chuck learn to trust Willy?  Can a dog really be as smart as a cat?  Will Chuck and Willy learn what it means to be a real friend?

The plot may be unbelievable, but that is a strength of this book.  There is so much humor and adventure that when the neighborhood cats and dogs talk to each other, you almost forget that animals cannot communicate through the English language.  That helps make the book interesting as well as make it a page-turner.  The vocabulary the animals use makes you want to read more.  Chuck and Willy refer to humans as ?people animals,? televisions as ?noisy boxes,? and the crosswalk light on the busy street as ?the talkie-light.?  They call their owners ?my Katie? and ?my David.?  The book is filled with Chuck and Willy ?words? that leave you laughing.  If there is a weakness in this book, it would be the freedom the two animals have.  You would think that the owners of Chuck and Willy would notice that their pets disappear from the yards most every day.  And you would think that neighbors or other people would see the cat and dog walking all over town.  And when Chuck presses the crosswalk button to get across the busy street, you would think that more than one person would notice a cat on a dog's back pushing a button with his paw!  Yes, the plot is unbelievable in a good way, but some events are way out there!

I recommend this book to boys and girls in second through fourth grades.  It is a fun book to read and will make you laugh.  It will also teach you a valuable lesson about friendship.  Check it out!

Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown / Rating: 4

4M and 4A say, "What if you woke up and you were flat? Would you like being flat? Think of all the things you could do. This book is about a boy named Stanley who got flattened by a bulletin board. One day he even became a kite for his little brother. Stanley was able to help people and became really famous. He dressed up as a shepherdess to solve a crime in an art museum. He got mailed across the U.S. in an envelope. Read this book to find out about Flat Stanley's other adventures. What's special about this book is that Stanley's flat and he can do stuff that normal people can't do and Stanley learns that good things don't last forever."

4V and 4S say, "Can you believe it?! This is a great book about a boy named Stanley who became flattened by a bulletin board and has an outrageously jealous brother. He was so thin he could be mailed across the country to visit his friend. Will he get caught by security, or will he succeed on his journey? He flew as a kite, and saved a museum filled with art dressed up as Little Bo Peep. This humorous story brings you falling to the ground with laughter. Every page of Flat Stanley's adventure is filled with unforgettable humor. If you want to find more out about this story read the book.
