Achievement & Abilities Testing

The term "standardized test" refers to tests that are given to a large group of students in order to determine how a child achieves compared to other students in his/her grade. Clow Elementary School, along with all of the elementary schools in District 204, administer the Stanford Achievement Test battery. The battery is designed to measure how students perform compared to other children across the nation.  We also administer the Illinois Standard Achievement Tests that assess student mastery of the Illinois Learning Standards. The State of Illinois requires all public schools to administer the ISAT tests.

District 204 tests students in the following areas during the first two weeks of October:
Grade 2 - Stanford Achievement Tests (SAT): Reading, Math, Language, Spelling, Listening, Study Skills; Otis-Lennon School Ability Test
Grade 3 - Stanford Achievement Tests (SAT): Reading, Math, Language
Grade 4 - Stanford Achievement Tests (SAT): Reading, Math, Language, Spelling, Listening, Study Skills, Social Science, Science; Otis-Lennon School Ability Test
Grade 5 - Stanford Achievement Tests (SAT): Reading, Math, Language

The following Illinois Standard Achievement Tests are administered in April each year (please note that prior to 1999 the Illinois Goals Assessment Program, or IGAP tests, were administered):

Grade 3 - ISAT Tests - Reading, Math, Writing
Grade 4 - ISAT Tests - Science, Social Science
Grade 5 - ISAT - Reading, Math, Writing

At Clow we use results of tests to provide a composite picture of student performance. The data helps parents and teachers understand the strengths and weaknesses of an individual child.  The results also help teachers make decisions about instruction.
