Severe Weather Project Description

Clow 5th graders study weather in science during the 2nd semester.  We construct weather instruments, gathering weather data daily outside, analyze the data, and make weather predictions based on observations.  Along with daily forecasting, 5th graders complete a project based on weather disasters.

As part of our weather unit, your child will be working with another student to compile information about a severe weather condition.  This project is to be done in school only.  The only reason your child might have work to be done at home is if time at school was not used appropriately or to its fullest.  The final product will be a computer generated PowerPoint presentation summarizing the research and information found.

Severe Weather Project Overview

In pairs you will be researching a weather condition. You will be using various resources in the LMC to find information on your severe weather.

You will need to find information on:

The weather conditions that must be present for the severe weather to occur. This is like the recipe for the severe weather.

Data about the history of your severe weather. This includes geographical information. This could be a graph, chart, map, or numbers.

Safety precautions for your severe weather. You must find at least 7.

The effects of the severe weather on the environment and communities it has occurred in.

Fun and interesting facts about the disaster.

Sites students use in their research.

You will also need to do a works cited page for your research.
